UPN GLOCALIZED: 11 AGREEMENTS SIGNED IN JULY 2019

In July 2019, Universidad Pedagógica Nacional

signed 11 agreements with national and international institutions. These agreements aim at continuing the construction of spaces for cooperation where we can participate and foster our mission under a perspective of Human Rights, support for indigenous populations, arts and culture in Europe, Latin America and Colombia, which helps to construct a GLOCALIZED UPN.

Education for the conservation of natural ecosystems in Colombia

Parques Nacionales de Colombia (PNN) and UPN joined efforts to work together in the design and application of educational and pedagogical strategies that allow students to participate in the” education for conservation” programmes led by PNN throughout PNN’s system of national natural parks in Colombia.

The aim of this initiative is to facilitate pedagogical internships for students with populations and communities who live in the buffer zones and territories neighbouring natural parks. Thus, through their academic programmes, they can develop and put into practice pedagogical methodologies that favour the conservation, protection and management of protected ecosystems.

Recognizing ethno-education and the rights of indigenous communities

With the strong intention of being present on a national level and bridging the gap between minority and majority societies in a territory, UPN signed an agreement of good will with Colombian indigenous associations in order to promote and develop educational activities that allow for the defense of the rights of indigenous peoples and communities in Colombia as well as for the recovering and conservation of ancestral and traditional knowledge. Consequently, academic agreements were signed with the Colombian National Indigenous Organization (ONIC) and with the National Organization of Indigenous Populations of the Colombian Amazon Region (OPIAC) in order to link the new indigenous generations to the professional training of educational and social leaders.
